Youth Shooting Sports

CSC’s Youth Shooting Sports Programs are firearms safety education and marksmanship programs that encompass the basic elements of safety, education, enjoyment and competition.

Who Can Participate?

Youth ages 10-17, male and female, can participate. Physical ability and size are no match for mental toughness and discipline in this co-ed skill sport. CSC’s Youth Programs are typically limited to 20-24 participants per cycle.

Why Shooting Sports?

Participants will gain knowledge of firearm construction and safety techniques. They will develop responsibility, confidence and self-reliance, as well as a skill they can enjoy and hone throughout their life.

How Much Does It Cost?

There is no cost to participate in the CSC Youth Shooting Sports Programs. Parent/guardian membership is not required, but encouraged to promote the sport.

Hello Parents!

It’s hard to believe that fall is almost upon us.  That means that Chuluota Sportsmen’s Club will soon be starting our fall Youth Trap League!  For those of you who don’t know, trap involves shotgun (not rifle) shooting at moving targets (clay pigeons).  Here’s a link for you to check out to learn more about the sport:  https://www.letsgoshooting.org/resources/articles/shotgun/getting-started-with-trap-shooting/.

This year, as always, the program is open to kids from 10 to 17.  However, we have noticed in past seasons, that the younger, smaller children most often have difficulty with the physical demands of this program, and typically quit after the first week or two.  Unlike our rifle program, where the firearm is resting on a bench, trap requires the shooter to hold and swing the shotgun the entire time it’s their turn to shoot each of 25 times per round, which requires some measure of strength.  This has apparently been an issue for some, as the gun can get quite heavy during a round.  So if you think your child may want to try, but aren’t sure if they’re capable, we are going to have an open night for any youth that want to come out and give it a shot (pun intended!) on Thursday, the 11th of September after 5pm.  We can provide shotguns and ammo.  If this date doesn’t work, and you still want to come out, let us know and we’ll make one of the officers available on another date.

At the start of the program, we will be having our mandatory safety presentation with a limited shoot on Day 1 (Sunday, September 21st) with the whole group.  We will have one full session from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with the kids taking turns shooting.  We have a total of 20 spaces available this year, so if you’re interested, please respond by clicking the signup link below as soon as possible.
This is a free league, and the club will provide 12 or 20 gauge shotguns and ammunition for your child.  If your child would like to use their own firearm, it must be 12 or 20 gauge, and it will be inspected by a club/safety officer onsite on the first day of activities (September 21st).
PLEASE NOTE THERE WILL BE NO TRAP LEAGUE ON OCTOBER 12th

All participants will be required to have a parent or legal guardian sign a waiver if you haven’t already in the past 12 mos.  Parents are required to stay on club property for the duration of the sessions while their child is present.
Thanks for your interest.  We are looking forward to seeing you all!
